One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme is that transferring your vehicle to a new authorised club requires a brand-new RWC.
This is not true.
If your vehicle:
👉 You DO NOT need a new Roadworthy Certificate.
The reasoning is straightforward. Your vehicle has already been assessed and deemed safe for road use under the scheme.
You are not re-registering the vehicle — you are only changing the administrative body that endorses your eligibility.
There is no mechanical reassessment required in this situation.
When Is a Roadworthy Actually Required?
Changing clubs under the VicRoads scheme is largely an administrative process.
In most cases, it involves:
Becoming a member of a VicRoads-authorised club that aligns with your needs
Having the required eligibility documentation completed by the new club’s authorised officer.
Submitting the updated paperwork to VicRoads That’s it.
This is the key point many enthusiasts don’t realise.
Under the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme, the permit is issued to the vehicle owner, with an authorised club acting as the endorsing body. You are not “locked in” to a club for life.
You have the right to choose a club that:
A car club should add value to your ownership experience — not take away from it.
The Club Permit Scheme was designed to keep historic and classic vehicles on Victorian roads. It exists to support enthusiasts, preserve automotive heritage, and encourage responsible enjoyment.
Because your classic deserves to be driven — and enjoyed — on your terms.
