Let’s clear This up once and for all.

The Roadworthy Myth – Busted.

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme is that transferring your vehicle to a new authorised club requires a brand-new RWC.

This is not true.

If your vehicle:

  • Currently holds a valid club permit
  • Remains continuously registered under the scheme & Is simply changing its nominated authorised club.

👉 You DO NOT need a new Roadworthy Certificate.

The reasoning is straightforward. Your vehicle has already been assessed and deemed safe for road use under the scheme.

You are not re-registering the vehicle — you are only changing the administrative body that endorses your eligibility.

There is no mechanical reassessment required in this situation.

When Is a Roadworthy Actually Required?

  • A Roadworthy Certificate is generally required only if:
  • The permit has expired and is not renewed in time.
  • The permit is cancelled.
  • The vehicle is newly entering the Club Permit Scheme.
  • Major modifications require reassessment.
  • Simply transferring between authorised clubs does not fall into these categories.

How the Transfer Process Works:

Changing clubs under the VicRoads scheme is largely an administrative process.

In most cases, it involves:

Becoming a member of a VicRoads-authorised club that aligns with your needs

Having the required eligibility documentation completed by the new club’s authorised officer.

Submitting the updated paperwork to VicRoads That’s it.

  • No RWC.
  • No full re-registration process.
  • No unnecessary stress.

Your Permit Belongs to You — Not the Club

This is the key point many enthusiasts don’t realise.

Under the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme, the permit is issued to the vehicle owner, with an authorised club acting as the endorsing body. You are not “locked in” to a club for life.

You have the right to choose a club that:

  • Matches your passion for classic and retro vehicles.
  • Respects your time and other commitments.
  • Encourages driving and enjoyment whenever you wish.
  • Promotes a positive, welcoming culture.

A car club should add value to your ownership experience — not take away from it.

Why This Matters:

The Club Permit Scheme was designed to keep historic and classic vehicles on Victorian roads. It exists to support enthusiasts, preserve automotive heritage, and encourage responsible enjoyment.

  • Car culture is about connection.
  • It’s about preservation.
  • It’s about community.
  • And above all, it’s about driving.

We Roll With You

Because your classic deserves to be driven — and enjoyed — on your terms.
